Our Favorite Airbnb Stays Around the World

Our Favorite Airbnb Stays Around the World

We stayed in Airbnbs for 85% of our travels! Staying in someone’s home is the quickest way that we catch a glimpse of local life in our destination. We meet the neighbors. Eat at our host’s favorite restaurants. The best moments are when we get to enjoy dinner with our host and their family or watch a local sports game together. Our favorite part of traveling is meeting people around the world, especially our Airbnb hosts.

To give a little something back to them, I’m sharing our favorite Airbnb stays in the hopes that you book a trip there! I promise that you will not be disappointed. So here they are, our 7 favorite Airbnb stays from our travels!

Normandy ($98.60/night)

This 2 bedroom flat wins the award for best design and most historical location. Our host Marie and her husband live in this historic manor with their two small girls. Right after we arrived, Marie brought up armloads of her girls’ toys for our kids to enjoy during their stay and didn’t blink an eye when our kids accidentally pulled down the window curtain. Truly a gracious host!

The Manoir des Equerres was built in 1820 and now it’s the only Anglo-Normand manor in the area. We explored the D-Day sights and a trip out to Mont Saint-Michel. But mostly we enjoyed some slow days in the beautiful space.

Paris ($210/night)

This Parisian apartment in the Latin Quarter is the perfect accommodation for sightseeing. Yes, it is small! Find me a large space in Paris, it’s not an easy feat. But it’s a comfortable space to crash after a long day of sightseeing. I love the Latin Quarter, this neighborhood is where I studied abroad, and proximity to Le Jardin Luxembourg is always a good thing, with or without kids!

Paros, Greece ($49/night)

The Donkey Loft! Trent got a first glimpse of this apartment and told me excitedly “You’re never going to want to leave!” Luckily, we spent 9 nights in this sweet accommodation on the island of Paros. Host Marco gave us the best list of restaurants and things to do. We crossed off almost the entire list and were never disappointed.

Siem Reap, Cambodia ($89/night)

I’ve sung the praises of the Banana Resort many, many times on this blog. But here I am again, I cannot be stopped! Caroline and her team are so gracious and we loved all of our 16 days with them. Delicious breakfasts of omelettes, fresh fruits, and the best coffee by the pool. Afternoons swimming, drinking beers, and chatting with the other travelers and Caroline. Our kids loved it here and even more so when Caroline invited the kids to jump on her son’s trampoline and use his scooters. She’s the best!

Lake District ($142/night)

This glamping pod is located on a farm in a quiet area of the Lake District in northern England. It was our first time slowing down and doing practically nothing all day. We wandered the walking trails, meet cows and sheep, fed the hens. Our host, JoAnne, and her husband work on the farm all day. They’re clear to state that they can’t give tours of the farm (they’re busy all day!), but her husband spontaneously took time one afternoon to teach our kids how to round up the sheep for the evening. Our animal loving kids were thrilled and still talk about that afternoon.

Lisbon ($234/night)

This apartment in Bairro Alto was a dream. It was huge and definitely above our budget but we split it with my mom and sister. It was fun to stay in a splurge level accommodation while they visited. It would be a great spot for a larger family during a vacation to Portugal. Or a great place to share with a group of friends. The neighborhood is perfect and we loved not having to travel far for a great meal or to sightsee.

Sintra, Portugal ($64/night)

Ah, this apartment and our time on the coast is what made us fall in love with Portugal! Our host, Ana, was the most thoughtful, caring host of our entire trip. She checked in on us during our stay, gave us wonderful recommendations, and left us with the most delicious welcome treat that included a cheese that we still talk about! We loved this little space. Mornings on the terrace, walks down to the beach, and afternoons at the nearby playground.

Do you have an Airbnb that you just never wanted to leave? I’m always looking for more recommendations. Share them in the comments below!
