weekend wanderlust : mexico city

My mom will often say “travel is 80% anticipation”. I’m not sure if she made up that phrase, but the travel planning gene runs strong in my blood. I love staying up late at night once everyone has gone to bed to take deep dives into researching locations. Lonely Planet, Travel and Leisure, and Sunset are always on my magazine rotation.

Because of this, I decided to share my compilations of quick research dives into new destinations, random screenshots saved to my camera roll to someday be used and the blogs and websites where I get the most travel inspiration.

For each city, I will share a SLEEP, EAT, DO, PLAY & TREAT.

Who knows if one day I will ever put this information to use, but hopefully it will spark some wanderlust for all of us!

First up… MEXICO CITY!

SLEEP : An Airbnb in La Condesa seems like the right way to go. La Condesa looks like a beautiful neighborhood with its tree-lined streets. A quieter location with an abundance of cute shops and restaurants to balance out the size and energy of the entire city.

EAT : I’ve read a lot about Mexico City over the past few years and rarely do a see a repeat restaurant recommendation. The sign of a city filled with some amazing food! El Pescadito (pictured above) looks simple, but delicious. Contramar, known for their seafood, looks like a step above in price, but worth it. You know what also sounds great? Street tacos. Especially during a walk around a market!

DO : Top of my list is the Frida Kahlo museum, which location was once her home. The National Palace also looks like a must, if nothing else but then to spend the entire time viewing the Diego Rivera mural. The rest of our time would be spent in markets like, Saturday Bazaar and Ciudadela Market buying up all the little things that won’t fit in our suitcase.

PLAY : No day is complete for the kids without a trip to the park. We especially love parks that you can spend an entire day in. (We’re thinking of you - Central Park & Villa Borghese.) The Chapultepec Park sounds like just the place.

TREAT : Churreria El Moro is the only place to go. While I may have not seen repeating recommendations for restaurants, I did see this place everywhere. And why wouldn’t I? You can never go wrong with churros with dipping chocolate.

Check out all of the blogs linked in the photos for their amazing travel guides on Mexico City. They’re all blogs that I’ve read and loved for years.

Finally, two great cookbooks that I own and love that will only continue your desire to head to Mexico City. But at least they will bring a little of the city into your kitchen.

Have you ever been to Mexico City? What are your favorite, can’t-miss spots?
